Forward 2369 head of stock comprising 437 cattle including 182 young bulls and 32 cows and OTMs, 1811 sheep including 337 ewes, and 121 pigs including 35 sows.

The same number of clean cattle forward with quality overall not as good were again a very good trade with best quality animals dearer. Top price was 214.5 for a Limousin x heifer from JB Marwood & Son, Spennithorne, purchased by Hutchinson’s Butchers, Ripley. Steers sold to 187.5 twice for Limousin x from JB Marwood & Son and Belgian Blue x from DJ and AJ Bailes, Elwick, purchased by Thompson Wholesale Butchers, Witton-Le-Wear and J Robertshaw, Keelham Hall Farm Shop, Bradford, respectively.

More young bulls on offer with quality also poorer on the week would be a very similar trade with a top price of 173.5 for Limousin from JC, FM and JK Wilson, Arkendale, purchased by Kurpas Meats, Manchester. Cows and OTMs were a firmer trade with cows selling to 127.5 and OTMs to 154.5.

A larger entry of lambs were much dearer than last week particularly for best quality handy weights with a top price per kilo of 205 for Beltex x from Myton Hall Farm, Helperby, purchased by N Hall Wholesale Butchers, Skelmanthorpe. Continental x lambs sold to £80 (twice) from E Keighley, Alne, and Messrs Bland, Oulston, both purchased by Cleveland Meat Co. Stockton, and for Suffolk x from Messrs Bland, purchased by A Traves & Son, Escrick. Ewes again very easy to sell at very good rates making up to £109.

Pigs were a steady trade selling to 102p from S Walmsley and Partners, Harrogate, purchased by Hutchinson’s Butchers, Ripley. Sows were a little dearer to 67p.
