Forward 2663 head of stock comprising 411 Cattle inc 161 Young Bulls and 14 Cows and OTM’s, 2101 Sheep inc 320 Ewes and 151 Pigs inc 55 Sows and Boars.
Smaller numbers of cattle forward were a steadier trade particularly for poorer sorts in line with the trend for the week. The overall quality of cattle on offer would not be as good as last week and trade was in fact better than anticipated. Top price was 189.5 for a Limousin X Heifer from CR and CL Donaldson, Huby purchased by Worsley Wholesale Butchers, Wakefield. Steers sold to 184.5 twice for Belgian Blue and Limousin X from D & J Bailes, Elwick, both bought by Worsley Wholesale Butchers.
Young Bulls were also harder to sell again the overall quality was poorer. Top price was 172.5 3 times from R L Ramshaw, Guisborough, R Baxter, Nawton and D R &
S A Lawson, Tunstall purchased by J Penny & Sons, Rawdon and Cleveland Meat Co, Stockton (twice).
Cows and OTMs were forward in small numbers with trade quieter.
A much larger entry of lambs (almost double last weeks entry) met an improved trade particularly for better quality lambs with Texel X selling to £68.80 from D J Wilson, Harome to Hutchinson’s Butchers, Ripley.
Ewes were slightly cheaper on the week making up to £65.
A mixed entry of pigs were a little dearer making up to 119 from J W Fell & Son, Cleasby to Hutchinson’s Butchers.
Sows were also an improved trade up to 76p
