Forward 3432 head of stock comprising 422 cattle inc 157 young bulls and 63 cows & OTMs, 2925 sheep inc 251 ewes and 85 pigs inc 43 sows and 1 boar.
Similar numbers of clean cattle forward with overall quality not as good and trade was sharper in general. Top price being 203.5 for a Limousin x heifer from DJ & AJ Bailes, Elwick purchased by J McDonald, Eston. Steers sold to 183.5 for Limousin x from JB Marwood & Son, Spennithorne, purchased by J Penny & Sons, Rawdon. Young bulls would be a very similar trade with again a good proportion short of finish. Top price was 177.5 for a Belgian Blue x from FH Fairburn, Rievaulx purchased by R France & Son, Heckmondwyke. Cows and OTMs were again a very good trade with OTMs selling to 153.5 & cows to 131.5.
Larger numbers of hoggs forward with trade very similar. Good quality heavier hoggs would be dearer on the week selling to 102.5 for Texel x from Messrs Wardell & Foster, Scawton purchased by Kurpas Meats, Manchester and to 211.9 for Texel x from DF Whiteley, Scawton purchased by Hutchinson’s Butchers, Ripley. Ewes were again a very good trade, very similar to last week with a top price of £139. A mixed offering of pigs were a good trade selling to 107p twice from J French & Son, West Tanfield purchased by R Horner, Kilburn and Hutchinson’s Butchers respectively. Sows were much the same as last week selling to 64p.
