Thirsk Christmas Prize Show and Sale of Cattle 1 December 2011

This year’s event presented the judge, Mr Brian Glaves of Brompton by Sawdon, with an unenviable task when faced with a superb offering of show cattle, one of the best ever presented at the market. After lengthy consideration the championship was awarded to an exceptional Limousin x heifer presented by Douglas Bailes of Elwick, with the reserve championship going to another Limousin x heifer presented by Matthew Keel of Bagby. The champion was later sold for 452p/Kg to David Penny of J Penny & Sons, Rawdon, while the reserve champion sold for 279p/Kg and was also purchased by David Penny. Trade for all of the cattle on offer was exceptional with just short of half of the cattle making 220p/Kg and over.
