Christmas show

Thursday 3 December
Christmas Sheep & Cattle show results

The Annual Christmas Show and Sale of Cattle and Sheep was held on Thursday and attracted an exceptionally good turnout.

The cattle judge Mr Granville Moor from Hawick faced an unenviable task with over 120 cattle being presented in the various classes, but he acquitted himself extremely well and awarded the overall Championship to an outstanding Limousin x Heifer shown by Matthew Keel from Bagby which weighed 557 kg and was purchased for 380 ppkg (£2116.60) by James Robertshaw, Keelham Hall Farm Shop, Thornton, Bradford.  The Reserve Championship was awarded to Limousin x Steer weighing 470 kg which was also shown by Matthew Keel and was purchased for 260 ppkg (£1220.00) by J Penny & Sons, Rawdon.  It is refreshing to see a young man like Matthew who is only 22 years old showing such an interest in the livestock industry.

George Tillot from Rainton judged the Sheep classes and after considerable deliberation awarded the Championship to a pen of Texel x Lambs shown by Messrs RE Stainthorpe & Son, West Tanfield, which weighed 46 kg and were purchased by the judge for Phillip Marley, Butcher of Ripon at £107 (232.6 ppkg).
